A Mother's Love

1 week old
You are learning so many new and incredible things each day. I am truly honored and humbled to be your mommy. I love you so. Today when I came home for lunch, we danced around the living room and your giggle completely made my day. I never knew loving you would feel like this. I recently read another mother's blog about the loss of her baby, and I literally cannot wrap my mind around that kind of grief. I praise God for you everyday, and I cherish how happy and healthy you are. I realize that our lives are so fragile and in a moment things can change. I cherish you.

2 weeks old
Oh. And I can't wait to read The Velveteen Rabbit to you when you are older. Amanda had it on her kindle today, and it completely took on a new meaning compared to when I read it before I was a mommy. So many beautiful memories to look forward too. I can't wait. I love you son.

Sitting Up

I forgot to mention that Liam has been sitting up now all by himself for over week. Proud Mamma here!!

Spoke too soon

So we aren't still sleeping through the night. Last night was so difficult. Liam was up every 2 hours and at 4:30am, he absolutely refused to go back to sleep. I rocked him until 6:00am. Matt even tried and nothing worked. I wish he could talk so I would know what is bothering him. As a new mom here are a few things that run through my mind in the wee hours of the morning with a restless baby:

 1.       He is allergic to something:
a.       Formula
b.      The new sweet potatoes I’ve been giving him
c.       The rice cereal
2.       Tylenol
a.       Maybe I gave him too much/too little
3.       Do his teeth hurt?
4.       Maybe his onesie is too tight
5.       Maybe he can’t go to sleep because he can smell my milk and it’s making him hungry
6.       Is he hungry?
7.       Maybe he is getting a cold
8.       Maybe his ear hurts
9.       Maybe he has to burp
10.   Maybe he is waking himself because he has just learned to babble and likes to hear himself.

The list goes on and on. Hopefully tonight will be much better. Fingers crossed!

Sleeping Through the Night...

We are on Day 5 of you sleeping through the night! I think it has to do with a lot of things, but mainly I think you are finally full when you go to bed. It makes me feel bad that maybe these past couple of months you were waking up so much because you were hungry. We have you on a great schedule now. You wake up at 8:30am and play for an hour. At about 9:30-10:00am you eat you oatmeal and this week you are trying avocado. You seem to like it. You go down for a nap at 10:30 and will sleep anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. You always take at least 1 two hour nap a day. You are such a good baby. Anyway, when you wake up you play, eat a bottle, and then go back down for your second nap. You wake up about 4-4:30pm. I get home about 5:45pm and feed you more cereal and avocado. You have about 3oz of breast milk and then take a quick cat nap at 6:45pm for about 20-30 minutes. We play until 9:00pm, when we do your night time routine, which includes changing of the diaper, pj's, and a massage. We also turn on your lullaby CD at this point. I give you a 6-8oz bottle and you are out until 5:30am!!

This has been an adjustment for me, as I still wake up at a 2:00am anticipating you waking. Plus, at this point I need to pump to keep my milk supply up. You will sometimes fuss around a little, but you have been putting yourself back to sleep. At 5:30am you are starving!! We change your diaper (which you scream through because your so hungry) and I bring in another 6-8oz bottle and you go back to sleep until 8:30am. Pure Bliss! We have been unable to nurse because your nose has been stuffy this past week. Also, you have teeth, and will bite me occasionally which completely wakes you up because of course I gasp with pain!! I miss nursing you, but the bottle has seemed like a better option for us at this time.

I'm so proud of you Liam. You still wake up quietly and happy in the mornings making little noises and playing in your crib. We have to watch you closely though, because you love to play this game where you roll onto your back and put your blanket over your face until mommy and daddy come move it. You get to breathing pretty hard, and although it's cute, it sometimes scares us. You laugh when we pull the blanket off, and if we don't take the blanket you will continue to do it. We love you so much!

Mommy and Me Friends

Jace sleeping

Since Jace was sleeping Lauren borrowed you for a picture

Katie and Parker (trying so hard to get Parker to look at the camera!)

Tana and Isaac

Kristen and Gavin

You trying so hard to get Isaac. Gavin thought this was funny!

Hey Buddy! Where did you come from?

Trying to do a high five. Not quite there yet.

Here are your friends that you met when you were just 6 weeks old. We all have boys!! (there is 1 girl Cadence, but she wasn't here today) And we love you all so much. It's been so great for mommy to have friends who are going through the same thing. You love seeing and playing with your new friends. We met at Sierra Nevada on March 19th to see everyone. You are definitely the biggest one!! All of our babies are so different. They range from 12.5 lbs. to 24!! You are all so beautiful and healthy. We are so blessed!

Bath Time!!

So you just started liking your bath time. We recently added bubbles, and your not too sure about them yet. You aren't happy until we give you a cup like mommy has to wash you. You pretend to dump water on you. You are such a big boy, that we couldn't find any bath tubs that you will fit in. However, your too small to just be in the big bath, plus when we tried that you cried because you felt too far away from mommy and daddy. Pretty soon though it won't be possible for you to fit in your tub!!

I love you...

One day you will read this little man, and I want you to know how greatly you have changed my life for the better. You are smart, funny, content, happy, sensitive, and so curious. Everyday with you is the best day of my life. I don't know how daddy and I got so lucky to have such a special little boy. I thank God for you always, because I know if it weren't for Him you would not be here.

Your smile makes my heart sing, and I love watching you learn new things everyday. You really love to read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?" and the minute I say the title you get a huge smile and look at me. Another favorite is Good Night Moon and Llama Llama Red Pajama. You laugh hard when Lu Lu comes to kiss you, and you love when I say "Are you my baby?". Daddy can get you laughing too. He lifts you up in the air, kisses your belly, and makes what I call "boy noises" you love it. You love when we pretend to eat your feet, and you laugh so loud when I put you on my hip and sing and dance. You are such a joy in our life Liam. I don't know the title to your favorite lullaby, but it goes like this:

I love you Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship you
All my soul, rejoice
Take joy my king
In what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound
In your ear

I sing this to you every night, and it's the only song that puts you to sleep. I have tried others, but you grunt and jerk until you hear your favorite song.

Every morning when you wake up daddy and I come in (if he's home) and gently say "good morning?" "Hello?" "It's a new day sunshine". I open your curtains, and gently turn on the light. This is one of my most precious moments with you. You get so excited when you hear my voice. You are always sleeping on your tummy, and when you hear us, you start kicking and wiggling. You lift your head and smile so big. When you see me, you bury your head in your mattress and then look up again with that beautiful smile. I love you so much. You always wake up so happy.

You are most content when you are sitting with daddy and I. We can put you in our bed together and you lay there for hours listening to us talk. Every now and then you will interject with an "AAHH" if we take to long in paying attention to you. One of my favorite memories of you, was when you were about 11 weeks old, and you laid in bed with daddy and I all day long. We watched Toy Story 3, and you slept so soundly right between us. We are so lucky.

You love to lay on your back and grab your toes. You try so hard to put them in your mouth, but your belly is just too big. You love being kissed all over. Especially your neck. You smile big when daddy and I kiss your ears. I love when I go to lay you down for your nap and the minute we walk in your room and turn down the lights you bury your head in my shoulder. You get so excited to nurse, and start going "Ah Ah Ah" until it's time. Rocking you to sleep is very precious to me. This is "our time" with no interruptions. Just mommy and Liam. You nurse, I sing, I rock, I kiss you, and in these moments you are so pure, innocent, precious, beautiful, my sweet boy. Most of the time, even though you are asleep I will rock you in silence just watching you breathe, and admiring your beautiful spirit. I will never forget these moments with you Liam. They are so short lived, and before I know it, you will be so big and these special moments will be a memory. I cherish all of our time together, and I feel so honored that I was chosen to be YOUR mom, and help you grow into a man. I love you Liam.

My First Solid Food Experience!

Liam has been on rice, oatmeal, and barley cereal now for over two weeks. The doctor had suggested increasing his food intake and adding yellow vegetables to his diet. The only thing we had in the cupboard was corn. So I pureed it up for him with some formula. I have to say, he was not too excited about it. He is on day 3 of eating corn and cereal. He is slowly starting to get used to it, but still prefers the rice cereal. I'm a little worried since he has not pooped in two days. I'm starting to wonder if he has an allergy to corn? I also feel bad, because I read on the Internet (I really need to stop doing that) that corn is NOT a good first food for babies because it's very hard to digest, and very common to have an allergic reaction. A symptom of allergic reaction is constipation. This new mom stuff is hard. I bought sweet potatoes today , so I'm going to try that next. I hope I haven't caused Liam to be uncomfortable from the corn feeding. Pictures to come of his meal time. So cute, but super messy!!

I'm so brave! I got my 2nd round of shots today...ouch!

Liam had his appointment today. He is such a great baby. Matt and I are so proud of him. He weighs 23lbs, and is 27 inches long. He has gained 4lbs and grew 1 inch since his last appointment. Such a big boy! The doctor gave him a clean bill of health and said that he is developing right on track. He also told us to increase Liam's solid food intake since he is the weight of a 1 year old. :) He believes that increasing his food will also help him sleep better at night. He said we should be expecting no less than 10 hours of straight sleep per night!! We are so far off from that! Liam still gets up 2 to 3 times per night. I have to say I don't mind it since I'm a working mom and the night time is kind of "our time" together. I enjoy nursing him at night. He is so sweet to look at. Plus, during his 3rd month of life his sleep habits took a horrible turn for the worst and I was up 10-12 times per night. I thought we were doing great now. Anyway, I will increase his food and see if it helps. I definitely don't want him to be hungry.

Liam was so brave. He was so happy right before the nurse gave him his shots. I think it hurt his feelings more than physically hurt him when she did it. He stopped crying the moment I picked him up and didn't make a peep afterward. He really is such a jewel. He didn't get a reaction or a fever. I gave him some Tylenol just in case his legs started aching, but he was a happy little boy and took a 2 hour nap. We love our little Hercules!

So exciting! When I was feeding Liam his rice/oatmeal cereal this morning, I noticed that he was able to grasp the spoon a lot harder than normal. I tried to take a look in his mouth, but he was too interested in eating. After breakfast I laid him on his changing table with Daddy to see if we could see anything. The little stinker pursed his lips so tight together, and would not let us look in. I think he was afraid we were putting the nasty Ora-gel in his mouth again. Anyway, finally I was able to get my finger in and Voila! We have two teeth! He still won't let me get a good picture, but I will post one as soon as he shows me those pearly whites. I can't believe how fast time flies!! He is getting so big!
